Accused of extortion, woman
files rape raps vs Pakistani
From an accuser to accused. A week after filing string of criminal cases against two policemen and a woman, Pakistani businessman Tahir Nawas Akhunzadah was accused for the crime of rape before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors’ Office.
Notably, Maya (not her real name), Tahir’s accuser, was also the same woman he charged for serious illegal detention, grave threats, and extortion along with the former’s husband, Police Officer 1 (PO1) James Olvido, and PO2 Rex Gabawa, both assigned at the Iloilo City Police Office Intelligence Section (ICPO-S2),
Maya said that Tahir is her neighbor in the house she occupies with her husband.
At around 7:30 a.m. of November 28, before going to her small restaurant and store, Maya narrated that the suspect made sexual advances against her while she was inside taking a bath.
While molesting her, Tahir even uttered, “I will marry you, I will marry you.”
Maya claimed that she fought back but the Pakistani overpowered her until she was able to kick him on his groin.
She then ran inside the bedroom, locked it, and shouted for help.
However, no one heard her.
She then got dressed and sneaked out of the room only to find Tahir outside and again tried to molest her.
But Maya claimed that she fought hard until she boarded their cab and drove.
At that juncture, Tahir shouted at her, “Do not tell anybody of else I will kill you.”
When she arrived at the store, Maya said that she tried to call her husband but the latter did not pick up his phone.
It was then that she tried to call Gabawa and told him that she was harassed, molested, and raped.
Tahir even looked for her at the store.
She managed to escape and went back to their house together with an employee until her husband arrived.
When Olvido and Gabawa arrived, they then held Tahir who was begging forgiveness and asked that incident be kept from the police and the media.
Maya booked the incident at Pavia Police Station at around 11:20 a.m. of November 28 under the subject “Information.”
But on December 5 blotter entry of Pavia PNP, Maya again booked the “detailed” version of the incident under the subject “Rape.”
EXTORTION RAPS
The incident involving the two policemen and Maya came into public’s eye after Tahir accused the trio of extortion last December 5, or the same day that Maya booked a rape complaint against him.
Tahir, through his legal counsel, revealed that the Olvido couple and Gabawa went to his house at Providence Subdivision at Brgy. Balabag, Pavia, Iloilo at around 10:00 a.m. of November 28.
As earlier reported, the two policemen told the Pakistani that he has a pending arrest warrant for an illegal drugs case.
However, the two allegedly negotiated that they won’t arrest him and, in effect, make the case vanish in exchange for P200,000.
Tahir later gave the money at his store in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Later, the Pakistani lodged a complaint.
An investigation was then conducted by the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO).
When investigation was conducted they returned the P150,000 cash to Tahir.
After the incident, Cruz ordered ICPO director Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio to put the two policemen under custodial investigation. *
