Coming out every Monday, it became a trendsetter. The first to print in colored. The first to carry full-length features about tourism, personalities and organizations.
In April 2004, The News Today came out bi-weekly. Then, in January 2005 came the online edition that was a favourite news source of Ilonggos around the country and abroad. It was also in that year it became a tri-weekly newspaper.
The News Today came out daily in March 2007, which was a welcome development for Ilonggos who had long clamoured for an alternative daily newspaper.
In November 2010, the TNT Publishing, Inc., publisher of The News Today ceased ownership of the said newspaper. It was taken over by Maxposure, Inc. which is owned by businessman and philanthropist Rommel S. Ynion, a passionate media man himself.
At present, The News Today comes out in 16 pages. Twelve pages are allotted for news around the region, the nation and the world. Eight pages are allotted for Lifestyle.
Under Ynion's leadership, The News Today is set on becoming Western Visayas' "sulit" newspaper, one that is informative, objective and fearless in exposing corruption and misconduct in government.
This is The News Today's brand of commitment to the journalism profession and the Ilonggos.
The News Today will be the most credible and profitable newspaper from Western Visayas, serving audiences nationwide and across the globe.
The News Today exists to report credible news, columns and features that inform, educate and inspire readers. When called for, it also acts as a catalyst for change by influencing public opinion to improve the way its audience think, feel and act.
 YOUR CREDIBLE NEWS SOURCE
Credibility is important in newspapering. Without it, a newspaper loses its reason for being.
Credibility is defined as the quality, capability or power to elicit belief.
THE THREE C'S OF CREDIBILITY
Character is what is inside you. It is what makes you honest, hardworking and sincere. It is having a clear concept of what is right and what is wrong.
The News Today has competent reporters, competent photographers, competent editors,
competent layout artists and competent printing staff.
Courage is the capacity to stand for what is right no matter what.
A newspaper should care for the downtrodden, for the marginalized, for the underprivileged. It should be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves. It should be sensitive to the suffering of victims without losing its objectivity.
It should walk the talk.

TNT also held a forum that aimed to educate Ilonggos that children's cancer can be beaten and to mobilize the community for support.
NEWSPAPER GOWN COMPETITION
The News Today took part in the Miss Teen Dinagyang 2012 Newspaper Gown competition. It was a statement towards the need to preserve the environment through recycling and re-using of newspaper. The gown entry placed sixth place among 12 entries.
