The Dinagyang Festival has become the first religious-cultural celebration in the country to be conferred the prestigious Galing Pook Awards.
The festival, a public-private partnership, made it to the top 10 list of winners for 2012 as an innovative and exemplary practice.
Coincidentally, the city is set to celebrate the 45th or Sapphire Anniversary of Dinagyang on January 25 to 27.
The organization is composed of the city government, the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. and the San Jose Parish Church.
Last year, the city government also joined Galing Pook with Dinagyang Festival as entry and it finished as one of the finalists.
Awarding of winners will be at the Heroes Hall of Malacañang with Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III on January 30.
The Awards Program is facilitated by the Galing Pook Foundation as a foremost resource institution continuously promoting innovation and excellence in local governance.Â
It is a joint initiative together with the Local Government Academy of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Ford Foundation, and other individual advocates of good governance from the academe, civil society and government.*Lucy Montealto-Sinay/Iloilo City PIO
