DOH advises public to take precautions during cold season

E-mail Print PDF

During the cold season, more people tend to get sick because they stay indoors — even close to each other to keep warm, according to the Department of Health.

Being in the presence of others for a long period and not climate change makes the body more vulnerable to all sorts of diseases such as respiratory diseases and influenza (flu) or even measles and chicken pox.

In a radio report, the DOH reminded the public to pay close attention and observe health measures like proper hand-washing to avoid these illnesses.

For those already sick, they should make it a point to avoid going outside to prevent the disease from spreading and contaminating others.

They should also remember to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

The cold front and the northeast monsoon also known as “Hanging Amihan” is responsible for keeping the weather chilly.

Influenza or flu usually occurs during the cold season but higher during the rainy season, according to the DOH.

Aside from observing proper health measures, the DOH also said keeping warm, especially during the early mornings and evenings should also be observed.*PNA
