The public must report all crimes whether it is just as “petty” as pickpockets or snatching, according to Police Regional Office director, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr.
Cruz made the call following the result Social Weather Station survey showing that 31 percent of the Filipinos “opt not to report a crime,” considering it “too small a thing.”
The SWS was commissioned by the Philippine National Police to conduct the survey on Dec. 8 to 11, 2012.
The survey had 1,200 respondents nationwide with 300 each from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
It was also revealed in the result that 60 percent of the Filipinos, or six out of 10, were satisfied with the performance of the police.
He stressed result of the survey must serve as a challenge to the police to perform better.
He believes if the public trust their police, they will be more open and confident to report crime incidents.
He noted how the PNP heightened its anti-criminality drive especially during this election period which will end in June, this year.*
