SAN JOSE – After an all-out inspection of motorcycle helmets and markings last year, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) continues to step up its monitoring of “mandatory products” including protective helmets.
Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, information officer of DTI Antique, said they continue to monitor the implementation of Republic Act 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act which prohibits any person to use, sell or distribute substandard motorcycle helmets which don’t bear the Philippine Standard (PS) or the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark.
She warned Antiqueños against tampering, alteration, forgery and imitation of PS and ICC marks, which carries specific penalties.
DTI said it is resolute in its campaign requiring all manufacturers and importers of mandatory products which includes motorcycle helmets, home appliances, electrical and wiring devices, building and construction materials and consumer and chemical products to secure PS License and ICC Clearance prior to the distribution of their products as mandated under Republic Act 4109 or the Standards Law.
Distributors and retailers must also see to it that their suppliers have PS/ICC licensees.
Monitoring has been done by DTI at local stores to ensure suppliers adhere to the provisions of the law, said Cardinal.
Acting Provincial Director Lea Gonzales, meanwhile, urged consumers to exercise their right to safety by looking for the quality and safety marks when buying mandatory products.
PS Mark is affixed to locally-manufactured product that conforms to the Philippine National Standard while ICC Mark is affixed to imported product that conforms to the Philippine National Standard.*PIA
