Iloilo posts highest record in region
Iloilo City has remained to have the most number of gun ban violators in the region, according to the data provided by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6).
According to the PRO 6, the latest tally showed 86 persons were arrested in the region for violating the election gun ban.
Of this number, 22 are from Iloilo City, 20 in Bacolod City, 14 in Negros Occidental, 12 in Iloilo, eight in Capiz, five in Aklan, three in Antique and two in Guimaras.
To date, the police have recovered 57 firearms, 15 of which are high-powered.
Twenty-seven bladed weapons were also confiscated together with one hand grenade, and three gun/grenade replicas.
According to PRO 6, it already filed 62 cases in court while 18 others are still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the region’s police will adopt the 85-15 deployment scheme of its personnel to maximize the law enforcers rendering field duty.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz, Jr., PRO 6 director, noted the large number of police needed in the checkpoint/chokepoint operations and police visibility.
He noted that the present capability of police stations can hardly cope with the demand of security coverage for the SAFE (secured and fair election) 2013 campaign.
There are more than 9,000 police uniformed personnel in Region 6.
With the scheme, more than 7,650 will be performing field duty starting the kick off of the campaign of local candidates.*
