Beauty contest between
Mabilog, Ynion wives looms
Businessman and philanthropist Rommel Ynion claimed that Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s wife Marivic insulted his wife, Kathleen Espina-Ynion.
In his Facebook post last Sunday, Ynion said, “Marivic Mabilog insulted my wife, calling her names, and underestimating her intelligence, intimating that she alone is intelligent while the latter is just all beauty and no brains. Furthermore, in response to my earlier challenge, she agreed to engage my wife in a beauty contest provided the question and answer portion covers 60% of the show. No problem, my wife said. Kathleen accepted her challenge. This event will also include long gown, and swim suit competitions. Everybody can't wait anymore. Let's do this. They all want to see Marivic in swimsuit and my wife in her Filipiniana terno. My unsolicited advice to Marivic: Please don't call us names. Your acts of desperation only drive your husband's rating into the abyss. Your destruction is certain, your defeat pre-ordained.”
With this development, some Ilonggos expressed excitement with the possibility of such beauty contest.
Melba Armada de Asis, commented, “wat a pity to marivic. san o ang show down nla mayor Rommel ky matan aw ko” while Rodolfo Siason said, “hehe! i have to see this!”
But not all thought this is a laughing matter.
Danette Nubla-Sayo commented, “A woman of real intelligence will not stoop to such level, calling people names and judging a person she doesn't truly know. Kathleen is not just beauty and brains. She is also a woman with a good heart. If there's one person who can attest to that, that would be me. Wonder Twins nga di ba, big bro Rommel?”
Meanwhile, Manuel Mejorada said, “I've read the nasty comments of Marivic Mabilog and I found them un-ladylike. She fell to the gutter level and swam in the "lumawan". She called Rommel names and used below-the-belt attacks. That kind of language is hardly appropriate for a lady, much more for the first lady of Iloilo City.”
Cedric Reddy added, “Marivic and the mayor sound like they are in high school. As a leader you should command respect and not act like that in a public forum. Embarrassing, they lack class.”
Some event organizers were asked if they are interested in handling such beauty pageant, but they prefer not to comment.*
