Motorists who are helmet users and have paid the processing fee and are entitled to refund, can claim their refund from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) starting February 12.
DTI said the collection of the fees was waived sometime in July 2012 to facilitate easy implementation of the Helmet Law and ease the burden of motorists, and until such time that some provisions of the law will be clarified.Â
DTI-Iloilo Director Wilhelm Malones said they will refund the processing fee of P100 and the P1.25 for the ICC sticker.Â
Malones said that based on their records there are 4,254 motorists that have paid the processing fee and are entitled to refund.Â
He also said that the office will implement the family coding scheme to facilitate an orderly refund procedure.Â
Helmet owners or their authorized representatives are required to bring the following: official receipts; in case of loss, the owner’s ID which matches the ID attached to the Request for Helmet/Visor ICC Sticker Form duly accomplished at the time of application; authorized representatives shall present a Letter of Authority duly signed by the helmet/owner/claimant; photocopy of valid ID of Authorized representative and ID of the owner which matches the ID attached to request for helmet/visor ICC Sticker Form.Â
The DTI-Iloilo said the refund schedule is based on the first letter of the family name of the motorcycle owners as follows: February: A-D; March: E-N; and April: M-Z.Â
Consumers can call DTI office at 335-0149 or 337-0392 for inquiries.*PIA
