A nine-year-old Grade 1 pupil was killed after he was allegedly choked to death by his playmate Tuesday morning while in school at Brgy. Santo Angel, Dumalag, Capiz.
The victim, Guillmor Cerrada, was reportedly only rushed to the town’s Rural Health Center an hour after the incident happened.
According to Inspector Alcer Monsera, Dumalag police chief, Cerrada was playing taksi, a traditional Filipino game where players outplay each other using coins as bets, with some friends at the back of their classroom at Bontog Elementary School when the 9-year old Grade 3 suspect arrived.
The suspect, a resident of the nearby Brgy. Dangula, Dumarao town, then, reportedly asked the victim for the amount he lost in the game.
Peeved, Guillmor allegedly attack the suspect by boxing him, and the two exchanged punches.
Police reports said initially, some boys tried to pacify the duo but it did not stop them from throwing punches against each other.
Shortly later, the suspect overpowered the victim and strangled him.
Police report said the young suspect just let loose of his choke when the victim was getting unconscious.
It was too late when some teachers found the unconscious victim and rushed him for medical treatment.
However, Guillmor, who is said to be an only child, did not survive.
Monsera said that an autopsy was already conducted while the suspect is now at the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.*
