For having a new lease in life this year, a bone cancer survivor has decided to be more active in helping the community in return.

Delly Sumagaysay, 75, said she thanked God for another year to spend with her family.

She said she had three successful operations more than a year ago.

“I was expecting before that I will not reach 2013 because of the pains and the sacrifices I had to endure after my operations. Nakahanda na ako anytime kon tion na nga kuhaon nya ako, but now, I am fast recovering,” she said.

Recently, her family organized a thanksgiving party.

Sumagaysay is living with her 75-year old husband Azer at their compound in Brgy. Buntatala, Jaro, Iloilo City.

He and his other children also had their own miracle, that of surviving a car accident sometime ago.

For these miracles, she promised that this year, she will conduct more community services just like what her husband did when he was a barangay councilor. This way, she can pay back God for the good that she received, she said.*
