Couldn't take scolding for going home lateÂ
Despite having a background in clinical studies, a 25-year-old Nursing graduate from Guimaras took her own life after being scolded by her parents Wednesday.
The Nueva Valencia police believed that Daina Mae Vilchez of Sitio, Ilawod, Brgy. Salvacion of said town hanged herself to death after she was scolded for going home late from a beach party.
According to a report over Bombo Radyo, Vilchez’s family claimed that it has been the habit of girl to just go to her room when she is scolded.
The World Health Organization (WHO) 2007 report showed that about 1.2 million people die of suicide every year worldwide, or about one death every 40 seconds and one attempt every three seconds.
In the Philippines, more women attempt suicide than men but as seen in most other countries' case, fatality is higher in males, in part due to males' preference for more violent or lethal methods of suicide such as using guns or hanging.
It is also believed that incidence of suicide is at its peak among persons in adolescent years or those in the 15 to 24 age bracket.
Experts believed that among the various reasons why people commit suicide are peer pressure, dysfunctional families, problems in relationship, and bullying with family and relationship problems.
Depression leading to suicide is rampant among adolescents who do not have open lines of communication with their parents.*KVBÂ
