UNA's bets in WV complain of harassment vs. LP

A board member running under the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) hit the Liberal Party anew for what he alleged as “harassments” done against them.

In an interview yesterday, First District Board Member Gerardo Flores cited incidents in Miag-ao where allegedly, local candidates under the Liberal Party dole-out cash goods whose origins, he alleged, can be traced from the coffers of the Provincial Government.

Flores disclosed he received information that the LP is exhausting all its available resources to ensure its candidates in all levels will win in the May 2013 elections.

He cited that in Dumangas, where the mayor is a known ally of UNA, “the chief of police has been replaced unceremoniously.”

“It has been said that a special action force has been planned to be planted on towns where the Liberal force is weak and the recent events in Dumangas seems to prove that this force has already been set in motion,” he added.

In Miag-ao, Flores also disclosed that the chief of police and supervisor of one of the two elementary school districts have been replaced.

He said this twin replacements have been objected by his wife, Mayor Julieta Flores, because there were no consultations done with the local government unit.

Flores laments that President Aquino should look into the matter, and ensure LP is a shining example of his administration’s thrust of “Matuwid na Daan.”

“I may be an UNA mayoralty candidate but I am a Filipino, an Ilonggo, and a Miagaowanon. If only for unity of this nation, I still believe in the sitting President even if it means I have to tell him straight what erodes him and the party he trusts,” he said.

On his part, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. denied Flores’ accusations, saying the provincial government is not using the government fund to buy goods, medicines for medical mission and did not even dole out cash just for the election campaign.

“Nahisa lang ina sya (Flores) sa swerte namon,” Defensor said.*
