A barangay captain and his nephew died in a vehicular accident at Brgy. Canabajan, Calinog, Iloilo.

Abner Castor, 26, village chief of Malaguinabot, Calinog town, and his nephew, 22-year old Lusio Laureto, succumbed to injuries on the head, Calinog police investigator SPO1 Elmer Sanchez said.

The victims were on board a motorcycle driven by Castor when it crashed into the rear portion of a sugarcane truck parked along the highway shortly before midnight of Thursday.

Sanchez opined that Castor, who is one of Iloilo province’s young barangay captains, might have failed to notice the early warning device because the area was dark.

The two victims, who came from Passi City, were believed to be drunk. On top of that, both were not wearing a crash helmet.*
