Sixty-seven persons were taken to the hospital after allegedly suffering from food poisoning.
All of the victims attended a birthday party of a neighbor at Brgy. Jalandoni Wilson, City Proper in Iloilo City.
They reportedly suffered stomach pain, dizziness, vomiting, and began feeling weak.
The victims were brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center. They were later confined at the newly-opened Iloilo City Hospital upon the order of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
Investigation is still going on to determine what caused the food poisoning.Â
But the victims pointed to hotdogs as the possible culprit.Â
Generally, it was widely believed that hotdogs have a slim chance of poisoning a person because it is pre-cooked.Â
But there have been cases of listeria in eating hotdogs straight from the package or if not cooked well. Listeria monocytogenes is carried in the intestines of animals and can easily come into contact with raw vegetables, dairy products or uncooked meat.Â
Meanwhile, Dr. Urminico Baronda of the Iloilo City Health Office warned the public to be wary of the foods they buy during the Holidays.
Baronda particularly warned on looking for the expiry date and the manner of food handling.*Â
