Two policemen have been implicated in separate shooting incidents that killed two persons in Iloilo province.
Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, Iloilo police director, identified the suspects as PO2 Beverly Lorilla of San Rafael Municipal Police Station and PO1 Johnny Payas, detachment commander of a Community Police Assistance Center (COMPAC) in San Enrique town.
Lorilla immediately surrendered to personnel of Calinog Municipal Police Station after shooting his friend and high school batchmate, Brgy. Kagawad Delfin Celo III, 35, of Casa St., Poblacion Ilaya, Calinog.
The incident happened shortly after midnight of Friday at the Calinog town plaza.
Prior to the incident, Lorilla attended their high school reunion Thursday.
Along with some classmates, the suspect and Celo proceeded to the plaza for some drinks.
Witnesses claimed that they only saw the two whispering to each other.
Before their classmates, who were sharing a table with them, could react, Lorilla pulled his service firearm and shot the victim.
Meanwhile, Payas remains at large, as of presstime.
The police suspect allegedly shot Abner Casanova, 58, of Brgy. Imbang Pequeño, San Enrique, Iloilo.
According to reports, Casanova was making trouble outside their house when Payas passed by.
He allegedly tried to pacify the victim but the latter went inside their house and took a bolo.
When Casanova was about to attack, it was when Payas pulled his gun and shot the victim.
However, according to Cananova’s daughter, Analyn, she witnessed when Payas shot her father and when the latter fell on the pavement, the cop again shot him.*
