Two inmates from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 (BJMP-6) were sentenced to life imprisonment after the courts found them guilty of the crimes they committed several years ago.
BJMP-6 investigation chief Senior Jail Officer 1 (SJO1) Leo Lacerna said the convicts are Uday Sumandal of BJMP Ungka in Jaro District, Iloilo City and Richard Jimenez of Bacolod City District Jail.
Sumandal was convicted for violation of Sec. 5 of the Republic Act 9165 or other known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 while Jimenez was convicted for rape.
Lacerna said the two were transferred to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City, Manila last week, along with 48 others.
Earlier this year, the BJMP has transferred 102 convicted inmates to Muntinlupa in order to decongest the region’s jail facilities.
Since the program started in 2004, they have already transferred 1,000 prisoners.*
