A police desk dedicated to handle cases involving persons with disabilities (PWDs) or physically-challenged individuals was unveiled Friday at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 headquarters at Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
The PWD desk will be attached to the Women’s and Children’s Protection Desks. It has features and equipment apt for the needs of its clients.
It has a wheelchair ramp and comfort room with railings and slip-proof mats.
PRO6 director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr., however, said there is still a lot of work to be done for the full realization of the project.
“Sana susuportahan ng ating lokal na gobyerno ang proyektong ito para sa kapakanan ng mga kapatid nating may kapansanan,” Cruz added.
Considered as his brainchild, Cruz is looking forward that the creation of desks to cater to the needs of physically-challenged persons.
A few weeks ago, 50 police officers completed training on handling PWDs. Three more batches of policewomen are set to undergo the training.
These policewomen will be manning the PWD help desks.*
