ILLEGAL TRANSPORT OF FIRECRACKERS
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) warned against the illegal transport of firecrackers on board passenger and cargo vessels saying violators will be faced with severe sanctions.
PCG commandant Rear Admiral Rodolfo D. Isorena said firecrackers should be documented with approval from the Philippine National Police or PCG K-9 Unit and properly coordinated with shipping company for proper cargo stowage inside the ship.
He added that failure to do so could result in severe punishment or sanctions against the carrier.
Isorena also advised firecracker owners that it should inform the Coast Guard Station of the port where the shipment will be made ahead of time.
Meanwhile, the PCG chief also reminded all PCG units all over the country to ensure safety and security of maritime travelers during the holiday season, stressing the need for extra vigilance in ports with random checks on passengers and luggage.*KVB/PNA
