The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is embarking on an intensified campaign on 'Clean Note Policy' to raise public awareness on keeping their money clean and fit.
BSP-Iloilo research specialist Doreen M. Santerva said that they have now engaged schools, government offices and collecting agents in the campaign.
They have been to four municipalities of Guimaras recently and they are currently in Iloilo for the advocacy.
Santerva said that it seems people have low regard for the Philippine money when compared with how they treat other denominations like the US dollar.
She emphasized that Philippine money should be protected, it should not be torn neither folded because they represent the country.
If clean and fit, it would also be easier to detect if these are counterfeit or not.
The policy prohibits mutilation and defacement of both the peso bills and coins.
She added that violation of the policy comes with a penalty of five years imprisonment or a fine of P20,000 or both.*PNA
