Capiz gears for Bio-Rcon program

ROXAS CITY – The Provincial Government of Capiz through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) prepares for the pilot implementation of the Department of Agriculture (DA) biological rat control (Bio-Rcon) program.

Representatives of Cuban firm LabioFam, assisted by DA Assistant Secretary Dante Delima and DA regional director Larry Nacionales, detailed the program, including its effects to humans and other animals.

Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia dela Cruz said that the province of Capiz will boost its rice production and other crop products with the elimination of rat infestation here.

“The Bio-Rcon program will answer the big problem of our province in terms of rodent diseases most specially to minimize the cases of Leptospirosis that threatens the health of Capizeños,” Dela Cruz added.

Based on OPA data, at least 29,563.04 hectares in the entire province were affected last year.

The program will be implemented in the first quarter of 2013.*CPPB/Roxanne Dichosa
