Threatening the poor

E-mail Print PDF

A resident of Baluarte, Molo, and a mother of four, complained that barangay leaders of certain politicians are threatening to “delist” them from the 4Ps program if they will support their rivals or campaign for their rivals. She said complainingly, “Amo gani wala ko gapabalo na gakadto ako sa medical mission ni Ynion kay ngaa budlay nga mamarkahan.”

"Bal-an mo may gapanugid man sa ila, kay may ara sila tinawo na gakadto pirmi sa medical mission ni Ynion."

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps is a flagship program of the national government and partly funded by the World Bank. The beneficiaries are determined under the National Household Targeting System  - a database of the country’s poorest of the poor. It is pathetic that some politicians use the program to advance their political interests and threaten those that deserve more from the government.*
