KALIBO – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan has requested Governor Carlito Marquez to immediately create the Aklan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (APDDRRMO) to strengthen and institutionalize the province’s disaster risk reduction and management plan.

Resolution No. 2012-322 sponsored by SP Member Raymar Rebaldo and passed by the SP during its 41st regular session on Nov. 28, 2012, cited that the creation of the said office in every municipal and provincial government units in the country was mandated by Republic Act No. 10121, or the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2010.”

In Aklan, only Kalibo has permanently created the said office, the resolution reads.

It was learned that in January 2011, the SP drafted an ordinance creating the said provincial office but Vice Gov. Gabrielle V. Calizo-Quimpo cautioned the body that the move must be an initiative of the governor, thus, the proposed enactment was shelved until today.*
