Guimaras moves to eliminate rabies

On its aim to to qualify and be declared as 'rabies free island province in 2013,' a mass immunization of dogs in municipalities of Jordan, Sibunag, Buenavista and dog show presentation in Nueva Valencia were conducted simultaneously on March 26.

The event is in line with the nationwide celebration of the Rabies Awareness Month.

The provincewide caravan was spearheaded by the Provincial Rabies Control Committee (PRCC) headed by Gov. Felipe Nava.

In Jordan, the event were attended by Mayor Cresente P. Chavez Jr., Rosie Laurea-Gotera, PRCC coordinator, Armin Catalan, zoologist I, Mildred Gencianeo Jordan Municipal Agriculturist and Guimaras Provincial Police Office personnels.

Meanwhile, Leonisa Jamandre, Municipal Rabies Coordinator and Agricultural Technician of Nueva Valencia, to educate the community, presented documents regarding Rabies program and activities conducted in their municipality.

Board Member Emilio Esmeralda, chairman of the Committee on Health and Provincial Administrator Ronie Segobre also graced the event.

In Sibunag, Mayor Luben Vilches and Municipal Agriculturist Paciano Opelario spearheaded the activity.*
