BORACAY Island, Aklan – The management of the Caticlan-Cagban Jetty Port here believes that tourism in Boracay will further grow after the Supreme Court (SC) resumed its normal operations.
Niven Maquirang, port administrator of the Aklan provincial government, said the impeachment proceedings caused the SC to delay the lifting of the temporary environment and protection order (TEPO) against the construction of the reclamation project here.
A group of stakeholders earlier questioned the construction of the jetty port pending the study of its environmental impact.
However, these complainants already withdrew their opposition upon understanding that the reclamation port does not have any environmental effect on the island.
The SC suspended its action on the issue due to the impeachment proceedings against ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.
"The impeachment is the will of God and people. Maybe, its also positive for our reclamation since the SC can now decide on the possible lifting of the TEPO order they had earlier issued on the reclamation project," said Maquirang.
The reclamation project is aimed at further boosting the tourism industry in this resort island.*PNA
