Eighty informal settlers from Barangay San Juan, Molo district are beneficiaries of a United Nations-supported project aimed to mitigate hunger and poverty in poor communities.
The project “Millennium Development Goals Family-based Actions for Children and the Environs in the Slum (MDG-FACES)” is under the United Nations Center for Human Settlements or UN-Habitat.
The project, which was launched recently, targets to enhance the capability of poor women or mothers to identify issues, articulate the needs of the set targets for their families especially that of their children, make strategic choices and actions, and monitor children's progress to meet the Millennium Development Goals using the Family MDG Covenant.
The city government clarified that no monetary consideration is involved in the program. However, beneficiaries are assured of quick response to their urgent needs such as education, health, housing, livelihood and other basic requirements.
The MDG-FACES is a singular family-based project aimed at helping beneficiaries fulfill their dreams of getting good education and finally improve their lives.
Iloilo City is one of 21 cities in the country taking part in the project which will be implemented for a year to achieve MDGs for 2015.*Iloilo City PIO
