SAN JOSE, Antique – The National Food Authority (NFA) assured the public that there is enough supply of rice in the province, anticipating the demands come this lean and rainy season.
According to NFA, present inventory shows that Antique has a total of 394,770 bags of rice to last for 82 days at a daily consumption rate of 4,680 bags per day.
It noted, however, the continuous milling of palay using NFA-owned rice mill in preparation for the coming lean months.
NFA said that Antique is a surplus province in terms of palay production, and can even supply other provinces with rice.
Recently, it was required to supply a total of 65,000 bags of rice to Negros Occidental, considered a highly deficit area of palay in Western Visayas.
As of April, the agency dispersed a total of 22,000 bags representing around 34 percent of its total need.
Further, NFA rice is available at all accredited rice retail outlets for only P27 per kilo.
NFA continues to buy palay at P17 per kilo (clean and dry) with incentives such as the following: an additional P0.20 per kilo incentive for drying, P0.20 per kilo for delivery and P0.30 per kilo for Cooperative Development Incentive Fee (CDIF) for farmers who are members of Cooperative/Farmer's Organization.*PIA
