14 Jordan villages receive infra aide

Fourteen barangays from the Municipality of Jordan will be allocated with budget from the municipal government to fund their chosen infrastructure project which will benefit their communities.

Among the 14 barangays, Barangay Lawi was the first to receive the amount given to Punong Barangay Rosito Galvan during their scheduled Barangay Council Session on March 7 at the Lawi Barangay Hall.

Jordan Mayor Cresente Chavez Jr. handed the check to Galvan with the members of the barangay council which will be used for the side roofing of their barangay plaza – frequent venue of most barangay activities.

Meanwhile, the check for the priority project of Barangay Bugnay, represented by Punong Barangay Rafael Galido was also given on March 16 during the Municipal Development Council meeting held at Ruthird Bar and Resto in San Miguel, Jordan. The fund is for the enclosure of a multi-purpose pavement and construction of concrete benches of the village.

Punong Barangay Zenaida Quizon of Brgy. Sta. Teresa also received the budget allocation during their Barangay Assembly on March 28. This will be used for the improvement of the children's playground for its child friendly advocacy.

Other additional barangays will also receive the same budgetary allocation.

On the other hand, 70 families of Sitio Kati Kati, Barangay San Miguel were given their own lot titles at the new resettlement area for indigenous peoples last March 3.

The giving of land titles were attended by Chavez and Guimaras Governor Felipe Hilan Nava.

The new resettlement area, about 10 hectares in size, was donated by the family and heirs of the late Romerico Presbitero - Chavez which was later transferred to the Ati Community.

The local government unit of Jordan was responsible for paving the access road to the area with the equipment that was lent by the provincial government. Moreover, the beneficiaries were also tasked to clear the site prior to their transfer.

"This joint effort by the leaders of the Island Province just proves that whenever there is cooperation, nothing is impossible especially if the beneficiaries and recipients of these programs and projects are its people," said Chavez.*
