ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Department of Education has been lauded for its commitment in the implementation of the National Greening Program in Capiz.

According to Department of Environment and Natural Resources provincial head Dionisio Molina Jr., the efforts of the employees, teachers and students of the DepEd is laudable and an inspiration to other Capiceños.

Molina said they have shown their commitment and determination to help address climate change and global warming through their active involvement in the tree planting and growing activities.

“The DepEd people are so far the most active government agency in the National Greening Program implementation in Capiz,” he said.

Last August 19, the DepEd joined forces with the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army and local government officials for the tree planting activity in Jamindan.

“With all the Capiceños uniting for a laudable cause of protecting and saving Mother Earth, we are assured of a healthy environment for the future generation,” Molina said, pointing out that the massive tree growing in the province is expected to result in the increased forest cover here.

Earlier, Capiz Schools Division Superintendent Eveleth Gamboa said that the active involvement of teachers and students in NGP not only addresses environment-related problems but ensures food security as well.

The Capiz schools, with more than 5,000 teachers and 900 employees, target to plant more than 59,000 trees with each personnel required to plant at least 10 trees starting this year until 2011.*PIA
