ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Instead of reviving the operation of Panay Railways Inc., a study is looking for the feasibility of putting a toll highway to make the region more interconnected.
This was revealed by Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas during his interaction with the local media March 8.
He said the project is comparable to the North Luzon Expressway which shortened the distance of travel as well as provided motorists with safe and more convenient trip from Metro Manila to northern Luzon provinces.
A toll road is either privately or publicly built road and drivers pay a fee for every use.
Roxas, who graced the inauguration of the new office building of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – Roxas City Branch, stressed that if realized, the project will boost the economic activities in Panay Island.
A Capiceño, Roxas reiterated the government’s lack of interest to revive the railway system and said it is “uneconomical.”
“Let’s use the people’s money wisely,” he said and added that the railways will not benefit the trade between Iloilo and Capiz because the two have the same products.
He said the two provinces are already accessible by buses and vans with the establishment of several road networks which makes land travel easy and convenient.*PIA

Really, in 2012 I am stunned that there are still people in power who are stupid enough to think that a toll road in the answer.
The rebuild of the old railway on Panay, plus the proposed extensions are so vital to the future of Panay. How can the wonderfukl residents living there even allow this thinking to go on.?
I hope that someone sees the light before another huge transportation mistake is made and goes on to hurt the nations economy even more.
Thank you
