Due to overlapping of routes, some jeepney drivers plying the Baluarte and Timawa routes asked for the suspension of the city's Regulation Ordinance 2012-194 which allows jeepney drivers plying from Mohon terminal in Arevalo district to enter the city proper until the Iloilo Terminal Public Market.
Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) officer-in-charge Joe Tengco said the Baluarte and Timawa Transport Associations complained of low daily income because some Mohon jeepneys get their supposed passengers.
Both Baluarte and Tiwara routes pass the streets of Jalandoni, De Leon, Fuentes and back to Ledesma from Molo district.
Tengco said both associations have aired their complaint to City Councilor R. Leone Gerochi, chairman on Transportation so that this will be brought before the City Council.
The complainants claimed that the approval of City Ordinance 2012-194 did not pass through a public consultation.
Prior to the ordinance, regular routes of jeepney drivers from Mohon terminal passed at the Molo district going to Gen. Luna Street to Quezon Street without passing the terminal market.
The ordinance allows 20 units of Mohon jeepneys to enter the city premises from Mohon terminal going to Iloilo Doctor's Hospital to terminal market and back.
"The new routes are subject to drivers' protest," he said.
Tengco said the complaint is now under review by the City Council.*
