A retired member of the Philippine Army was shot to death after meddling in a commotion in Brgy. Bagacay, Tigbauan Iloilo last Tuesday night.
The victim identified as Nelson Espija, 53, was shot to death around 9:40 in the evening of May 29 and sustained multiple gunshot wounds believed from a 12-gauge shotgun.
Espija allegedly tried to the stop the commotion that transpired and tried to pacify the suspect identified as Nestor Templo.
According to Police Inspector Abner Jordan, chief of Tigbauan Police Station, Templo was under the influence of liquor.
Based on the initial investigation, Jordan said that the suspect got irritated when the victim confronted him.
The suspect then immediately left the area. But afew moments later, Templo brought his firearm and shot the retired army, resulting to the latter's immediate death.
The suspect was able to escape but was later arrested after a hot pursuit operation.
Templo is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Tigbauan Police Station for proper disposition of his case.
Meanwhile, the victim's body will undergo an autopsy.*
