CAPIZ – The enforcers of this city's anti-smoking ordinance nabbed 109 violators from January to May 23, this year.
According to the Roxas City Health Office, violators included a city hall employee, security guards, students, among others.
"Even a presence of ash tray in a commercial establishment constitutes a violation," said a CHO staff.
Based on CHO records, about 20 of the violators paid P500 while others opted to do community service.
To note, the city government has also tapped the Roxas City Police Station and police auxiliaries in the campaign to protect non-smokers from second hand and third hand smoke.
Earlier this month, Red Orchid national evaluators from the Department of Health assessed the city's anti-smoking campaign in view of this year's Red Orchid Award.
In 2011, the city government won the Red Orchid Award for its efforts in trying to achieve a "100 percent tobacco-free environment."
Smoking in public places is strictly prohibited in the city with the enforcement of City Ordinance No. 009 – 2011.*PIA

Why not concentrate on that massive source of pollution rather than the few addicts that still mock the rules, surely government has their priorities wrong here?
